This is our monthly get-together for local residents. It currently runs on the second Friday of each month at the Early Years Centre on Alder Road. We've had a variety of sessions including board-games, crafts and a talk on the history of the Parks Estate from local historian Adrian Farmer and former resident Mary Smedley.
We are looking to run a short course of chair exercises classes on Thursday afternoons at 3pm at the Early Years Centre, Alder Road. Dates to be confirmed. Please email or ring if you are interested. These will be £4 a session.
Community Fun Day
Our next community fun day will be on Saturday 19th May 2018 and we are partnering with the Duffield and Belper Rotary Club and it will be a much bigger event than our previous fun days. There will be arena acts, a music stage, school choir performances, charity stalls, inflatables, Skyeland Softplay, a Teddy-Bears picnic and much more!
RECENT COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES:
Fundraising Stall at the Belper Christmas Lights Switch On
In November we had a stall selling cards and decorations made by the Cuppa-Cake-Chat group and the Youth Club. We raised £111.95! Thanks to everyone who helped and to those who bought from the stall!
Morrisons Bag Packing Fundraiser
In October the youth club spent a Saturday packing bags at Morrisons and raised a brilliant £291.65 towards the Blue Box project. Well done all!
A Big Thank You
In October we also received over £200 of funding from the local shop McColls who chose us at their community group to support this year. We also received £473 from St Swithun's Harvest Supper. We are very grateful for and encouraged by this local support.
Community Engagement Training
Working alongside Amber Valley CVS our volunteers are being trained as Community Organisers. This training will help Blue Box Belper to meet more local residents and discuss their community project ideas, which we can nurture and grow from the new Blue Box facility. We will also be developing a regular Community Newsletter.
Youth Sports Provision
We secured £500 from Futures Homescape Community Fund to help continue the sports provision delivered weekly on the estate by the charity Sporting Futures during the Spring months.
Furthermore we have received £5,000 from Public Health to ensure the sports provision continues for a further a year. The funding will also ensure we are able to take a group of vulnerable young women on a residential trip to encourage improved well being and health.
Members of the Blue Box Youth Club and other residents of the P ks Estate made lots of blue pompoms and birds to decorate our tree at this year’s Woollen Woods in May. We think it looks great
Bus to fundraise at Belper's Arts Trailking
In May 2017 committee member Elle Wyke did a 20 minute busking session as part of the Belper Arts Trail raising £35 towards the Blue Box
Second Hand Clothes Sale in the changing rooms – Saturday 8th April. We had a great time and made £140. We hope to run another one of these soon and will advertise further in advance this time.
We made lots of festive crafts and enjoyed cups of mulled punch and mince pies. We’ll be having more craft sessions so keep an eye out for dates.
The youth club and residents of the Parks Estate made LOTS of cards, gift tags and presents to sell at the Christmas lights switch on and Belper School Christmas Market. We sold out and we raised over £130!
Community Day 2016
We had a very wet but brilliant day at our Community Day in August 2016. About 80 people came out despite the weather. Our next Community Fun Day will be Sunday 30th July 1-4pm.
